‘Avengers’ makes $250m in record weekend

“Avengers: Infinity War” took in $250 million in its opening weekend, the highest North America opening of all time, industry estimates showed on Sunday.

The film, which features more than two dozen superheroes fighting to save the universe, displaced “The Force Awakens,” the seventh instalment in the long-running “Star Wars” space saga that made $248 million in its opening weekend in 2015.

“Infinity War” is the 19th film in the so-called Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), combining a whopping nine franchises and a cast list that reads like a who’s who of Hollywood’s A-list.

Robert Downey Jr dons the red and gold metal suit once again as Iron Man; Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange; Scarlett Johansson is back as Black Widow; and Australia’s Chris Hemsworth is Thor.

Also back for more? Black Panther — the Marvel breakout of the year after the massive opening of the standalone pic in February, Captain America, the Hulk, Spider-Man, Hawkeye, the Guardians of the Galaxy and their assorted allies.

Their mission? To prevent the powerful purple alien Thanos (Josh Brolin) from destroying the universe.

African Icon Awards - Ooni of Ife Emerges Board Chairman

 

In-House Entertainment Limited, Organizers of the prestigious continental awards; African Icon Awards have announced His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife as the Chairman, Board of Governing Council. The acceptance was contained in a letter from the Royal Court, through His Majesty's Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Moses Olafare.

The revered monarch by this replaces the inaugural board Chairman, Ambassador Segun Olusola, OFR, a former Nigerian Ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union, who passed in 2012. Ambassador Olusola held the position for three years. 

The President of the awards and the CEO of In-House Entertainment Limited, Ambassador Ayo George could not hide his joy in reaction to the monarch's gesture. He said 'His Imperial Majesty has been a father to our organization since meeting him, his drive for youth development programs across the country is almost unbelievable. His deep seated belief in the abilities of young Africans is what baffles us most times. His Imperial Majesty has always been a supporter of any course that seeks to advance Peace, Togetherness, women and youth development, and quality leadership. You can expect a very outstanding event going by the quality of the board members and the award winners across Africa.
