Tyrel Martin Marhanka, a 41-year-old resident of Taiwan fatally stabbed himself in the neck in a Taiwan courtroom on Thursday, 16th of June during his sentencing for drug possession charges.

The incident happened moments after the judge sentenced Marhanka to four years in prison for the possession of illegal drugs and growing marijuana, which he stated were for his own personal use. According to reports, Tyrel was believed to have dismantled a pair of scissors and hidden them in a magazine to avoid the courtroom metal detectors. Witnesses said they heard Tyrel scream, “I don’t want to live anymore” before stabbing himself with the sharp object. He was immediately taken to a hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.

Court officials said they plan to improve security measures and introduce X-ray machines to scan people before entering the courtroom in order to prevent a future occurrence of such incident.
